Public Service Announcement: Watch Out for Counterfeit Pet Supplements

Fake pet behavior supplements traced to third-party seller on Amazon
 
FORT WORTH, TEXAS (March 23, 2021) – Counterfeit animal health products are a worldwide challenge for manufacturers, retailers, and pet owners. Vetoquinol USA, a global animal health company, has identified a small number of counterfeit products alleging to be Vetoquinol Zylkene^® Behavior Support Capsules for Dogs & Cats, 75mg.
 
Vetoquinol identified the counterfeit product was purchased from an unapproved third-party, online retailer. All cases were associated with imitation bottles using a single lot number: 048019 with the expiration date 05/2021. Any customers with the associated lot number of Zylkene in the 75-mg, 120-count packaging can call 1-817-529-7500 for a free, genuine replacement product.
 
“Thankfully, there are no illnesses or injuries associated with this instance, and no other Vetoquinol products or additional sizes of Zylkene were counterfeited,” said Eric M. Alsup, DVM, Country Manager, Vetoquinol USA. “Customers can purchase Zylkene from authorized retailers and be assured of its safety and quality. Unfortunately, the sale of counterfeit products is a challenge many other global manufacturers continue to face. We are working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to address this problem.”
 
Vetoquinol is actively monitoring online retailers for counterfeit products and is evaluating packaging updates to include additional security measures. Customers can watch out for counterfeit products by:

1. Purchasing from trusted, authorized retailers
2. Inspecting packaging upon receipt for suspicious labeling or missing/damaged seals
3. When in doubt, call the manufacturer

Lot numbers and expiration dates are printed on the bottom of each Zylkene package. Only the lot 048019 with an expiration date of 05/2021 on the bottles of 75-mg capsules has been associated with counterfeit product.
